With Alexander McQueen, a fashion show isn't just a presentation of a collection, it is a performance. Throughout the years, this designer has showcased his theatrical and imaginative designs that sometimes bordered a controversial line. He commonly explore the themes of life, death, nature, romanticism and sexuality in his collections.

McQueen has created a series of compositions that resonates with fashion and art lovers. A good example is N.13 from his spring/summer 1999 collection. This is one of his well known art performances, where model Shalom Harlow, is shown closing this show with two robots spraying her with black and yellow paint. A scene that is speculated to depict the death of the black swan.
